ive put the new axle in, but dont know where to replace the gear lubricant, also i got a new fuel filter and just wondering if theres anything i should know before i pull the old one out.
I believe you put it in the speedometer cable hole. As far as gear lubricant, I believe everybody has gone to using ATF or Dexron III auto tranny fluid.
One thing you need to know about that fuel filter is make sure, and I mean this, make sure you don't have a lit torch near it when you remove it. A cigarette or joint is okay, but not a torch!
Don't quote me on any of that, but I am about 99% sure.

Now that's darn near priceless!!
Are new axles supposed to come with new clips or any other pieces for reinstallation? Its been a long time since i took apart the aspire, and I muscled it apart because it was going to the junker anyway.

I'd noticed somewhere recently a dissing of a person using atf in a tranny; which a better product was named as highly more regarded...(?) Even though as w/Festiva the atf is what is recommended...

It takes transmission fluid, not gear oil. Discussed millions of times, and... ITS IN THE BOOK.
Dont kill it with gear oil. I put Valvoline synthetic ATF+4 in mine (for chrysler autos) its a little more oily than dex/merc I think. No problems here.
I would use just about any trans fluid, except maybe Type F, which is thinner and may not be oily enough. Unless maybe if youre in a really cold climate.
