So the running light works but it wont get brighter when the brake is applied? It is a two fillament bulb so maybe one is burnt out.

that would be my guess, i would assume the wiring is fine just replace the bulb

By left do you mean drivers side? Thats odd, because the wire goes from the drivers tail to the passenger tail. If the drivers was out I would have guessed that the passenger would be out too. Did you look over the bulb socket? Perhaps a corroded contact?

Get yourself a test light and something to put between the seat and brake pedal then go to the back and see if you have power to the brake light circuit.

we're just covering all the bases here. according to Haynes, it's a power side switch, so most likely you have a 12v source problem. bot filiments share the same ground, so if one filiment lights up, the ground is good. check (with a meter, or test light) that you have 2 12V sources, and a ground at the bulb socket. if you're missing a 12v source, back probe the suspect wire to rule out the socket. if you STILL don't have 12v, then there's a brake in the wire and you'll have to run a new wire from the main junction point in the harness (near the socket, driver side i think) and splice it into the socket. that should fix the problem.

don't worry about repairing the bad section, just find a good source (like from the 3rd light harness or right side harness) and run new wire.
