i think i need the crankshaft pulley. it starting to squeak. i removed the alt, belt thinking it was the alt, guess i was wrong. i sprayed some oil on the bottom crankshaft pulley were the timing setting is. it went away for just a while. so im looking for a pulley for my 1988 carb 4 speed.anybody got one ? one more question, the squeaking just started how much time do i have before it goes ?i use the car three days aweek about three hundred miles total. thanks email me halfahump1@aol.com

Pulleys don't squeak. It's probably a belt or a bearing.

Was the belt on when you sprayed the oil? The noise will most likely come from an old belt or a loose belt. Or your water pump bearing or alternator bearing. Not from your crank pulley unless it's loose and ready to fall off.

          squeak,

i took the belt off just to see if it was the alternator, i started the car it still made the no ise. so while it was running with out the belt (i dont have ac or power steering) i sprayed the bottom pulley were i thought the sound was coming from. i sprayed it up close onto the shaft the noise went away , i put the belt back on waited and then the noise came back, so it wasnt the belt which is new, the water pump is new ,,the oil pump is new the timing belt is new.the alt, is two years old. so thats what led me to believe it was the crankshaft pulley bearing.im just afraid if i keep on driving the shaft might seize.what do you think ?

There's no bearing on the crank pulley, just the crank main bearings and if they are squealing then you're screwed (new engine). It could be the timing belt?

Someone else will chime in soon with other ideas.

I doubt it's the bearing....behind the pully is the balancer then the timing belt sprocket then the oil pump then the bearing. I don't think spraying oil could have reached the bearing let alone get past the seals.

Oil may have allowed the belt to slip over the alt or water pump pully which may be the proble.

I would replace the belt and clean all the pullies.

part of the timing cover could be rubbing... push in on the cover a little and see if it stops or changes

so you think the noise is coming from behind the timing cover ?just had the cover off about a month ago. changed the water pump, timing belt, oil pump, sounded like it was below the timing cover .theres a pully with a tag that has the timing marks.ill try and push i on the cover see what happens.

Has the squeal been there since you changed the water pump?

if its not the crank pulley rubbing the cover making the noise, maybe the t-belt idler... probably it
