  • New Squealing Noise

I have a new squealing noise when I'm turning under accel. It sounds like a belt. You can hear sqeal get higher until it catches. This came after I changed the front brake pads and topped off the coolant. After lowering the car off the jack stands I pulled away for a test drive and it squealed without even turning then. That eventually went away and while driving I noticed the parking brake was still partially engaged. I released it all the way and still same problem(squealing noise when I'm turning under accel). After driving around a little bit, the squealing went down quite a bit, but was still there. I ran out of daylight today so I'm going to check the condition of the alternator belt tomorrow. My concern is the water pump. If the bearing was going on this would it squeal? The reason I'm thinking this is I topped off the coolant whereas I did nothing to the alt belt.

How much coolant did you add? Though I doubt it's the water pump. If it was...the noise should be present while the car is at idle or parked. and would have nothing t do with turning.

I would double check the installation of the brake pads.

coming from the front i guess, since you think it may be a pump? check for excessive play in the wheel bearings

Wheel bearings was one of the other things I was checking when I had it jacked up. I yanked back and forth on the wheel from the top and bottom and side to side, seemed solid. Now that you mention that though, the driver side wheel was a little more difficult to get off, had to yank on it a little. Is there another way to check for bad bearings? Wouldn't the bearings howl at higher speeds?

Didn't add much coolant, maybe a cup...

Noise sounds like its coming from front. One of the other thoughts I had were those clips on the brake calipers, maybe one is rubbing or something. I should also mention I only have the alternator belt installed, I do not have power steering and the AC belt is not installed.

Did you spill any antifreeze? It may have spilled on the belt causeing it to slip and squeal at first.

Well, I'm guessing 25horseplay got it. I went out to work on it this morning and I could not replicate the noise, everything sounded fine.
