so i was wondering is a 4speed harness the same as a 5 speed harness?

Since the four speeds are carbed and the five speeds are EFI I would say no, they arent the same.

                Depends on the year.

88 and 89 4 and 5 speeds share the same harness. 90+ is a completely different animal, and the harness won't interchange with any 80s model, regardless of transmission.

Don't forget the 89 ATX which is different still than all of the above. Also, the absolute base model carb 88&9 with no rear defroster has no wiring for ANY options!
5 spds were LX models those two years... in the U.S. that is.
