  • speedo/dip stuck!

merry christmas all! just replaced axle + control arm. (they kindof came apart while driving). was taking out speedo cable to top up tranny, but it is stuck fast! wont even budge a bit. tried twist and pull, nothin. tapped bracket lightly with screwdriver, but it broke so fast i think it was maybe broken b4, or tightened too much. i've got the speedo cable disconnected but am stumped for the moment. gonna get a long handled plier and try and twist and pull w that. anybody got any tips? cheers
P.S. would wd40 cause the oring to expand??

If that you break that one I've got one in the garage that you can have. You could pick it up at the same time you get the door handle!

Put the car in gear and push it, I assume that would move the speedo gear. Maybe that will do something for ya, am I wrong?

          Is the bolt removed?
I.'d try a placing cold chisel or large screw driver on the seam and tapping it with a hammer
if you can get it up in there. (It's been long time since I changed transmission fluid.)

I ruined more than one cable before I realized that getting pliers on the cable end (where it goes into the tranny) and carefully rotating it one direction or the other should pop the cable loose and make it easier to pull straight out. Seems like a real DUH but if I were a rocket scientist I doubt I'd be working on Festivas.

sweet, looks like some great ideas, thanks for the info. props to kia for putting these two ideally placed parts in the same hole! ingenious! i was thinking... kia should try mating some other parts together, for convenience of course. brake/accelerator pedals: these would make a great match i believe, you could even add the clutch in perhaps, keep that leg free for some serious foot tappin, while listening to your favorite techno song and cruisin down deerfoot. winshield wiper/horn: nothin like being able to let everyone know your cleaning your windows with the least amount of hassle, and perhaps they'd consider a power window/ejection seat button?
