  • Redford is ailing!

I feel your pain. My daily driver Redford is down right now until I get time to work on it. I had to break out Festdiva to drive. Festdiva had never seen salt since Ive owned it. Hasnt even been out in the winter. Since I started driving her last week we have had one snow and an ice storm last night. Makes me sick to drive it. I feel so dirty !!!! Id rather take off work and miss the pay if I could.

Fresh don't you have another one to drive in the bad weather? 3 of mine are stored for the winter.

Not one that is licensed and insured. Who would ever figure a festiva ( Redford ) would break down. I just bought wintiva but havent gotten around to getting it inspected and licensed. Plus it needs front wheel bearings. Cant get anything done working all the time.

Yes Ive noticed that too. Ive got four white festivas and the same plate will fit all of them. Not being insured on icy and or snowy roads is the main issue that worries me. Not only property damage but the personal liability thing. Could cost you a lot. Ive keep four festys insured. Redford is broke down, Freshtiva definitely is not coming out. I hate driving Blu cause its an auto, so diva got called for duty. Im off till Jan 5th after Christmas eve so Ill get a DD going and get the darn salt off of festdiva then....cant do it soon enough to suit me.

Thanks for asking. It started out as an occasional ticking that quickly went away in a few seconds after starting. As the temps got colder the occasional tick got louder but still only lasted a few seconds. Then is started occuring more often. I put a rebuilt head on it thinking it was a bad HLA. Got the rebuild head for $160 so I just changed it all. Car ran really good ( temps were mild ) so I thought Id fixed it, even topped it out one night, ran great. Next cold snap( a month later ) the ticking was back. Last time I drove it the loud ticking, almost a knock by now, had started again, this time it didnt stop. I parked it. Now Im thinking rod/crank conection. Shame too cause I got some $ in the car now. Ive got a couple of extra blocks so I thinking of trying another short block in it. If I find a B6 before I get into it Ill put a B6 in it. Too much $ in the car to stop now but Im really not sure what the problem is. Its kinda of up in the air now. The car still ran great the whole time but something isnt right. Its a bummer ! I love that car, it will be back better than ever.

Rebuilt head didnt fix it, and performance never suffered. Cost a lot of work and a $50 gasket set to put the head on. Wish I knew for sure which way to go with it. The motor has never lost any oil between changes and only has 120,000 on it. Young for a B3. Never gotten an oil light either, not sure whats up with it ??? Its so unfestiva like. It still looks hot though 8^)

What shortcut are you referring to? I dont take shortcuts. If I cant do a job right Ill hire someone who can. Why would I intentionally do something that will cost me later ? You must have me confused with someone else.

Marcus.....Just a far guess before you pull the block....swap the ignition coil and ignitor....a random mis-fire can cause noise like that of a bad valve train. Also you may want to gauge the oil pressure....a bad relief valve in the oil pump can make the sound of a bearing or piston slap.

I'm sorry for problems....feels like someone close in the family has taken ill.
