  • Can't Control Oil Leak

I've had, or have, replaced every seal on my '93 GL engine and I'm still leaking oil. Now it's coming from the valve cover gasket again. I'm thinking that the new head and the old valve cover are not a good match (valve cover is probably warped). I've tried the new gasket by itself and then also with sealant neither working. After finding another pool of oil on my driveway I checked the VCG and sure enough there is oil all the way around it.

I've spent way too much money this year on a new sewer line, heat pump system and HOT ROD. Any ideas you guys can share that do not include replacing the valve cover? If I have to go that route HOT ROD's gonna get parked for a while just for the sake of cash.

check the pcv valve. A stuck pcv is notorious for blowing gaskets ecspecially valve covers.

Yea - sounds like to much crankcase pressure or just a bad run of luck.

The PCV is new BUT I noticed that one side of it is melted as though it touched the engine while being worked on. I'll check the PCV first and then go from there.

          Thanks

Checked the PCV and it's bad. Good call. It still sucks a little air but when removed it doesn't rattle. Apparently the mehanic that changed the head took it out and laid it on another portion of the engine that was hot. The side melted which is retricting it's ability to do its intended job. I'll head to the auto shop tomorrow to pick up a new one. Hopefully that will take care of the oil blowing out of the valve cover seal and I won't need a new valve cover. If I do though Seth...thank you for such a generous offer.

Glad you guys are around.... :-)

Seth, thanks so much for the offer again. I just replaced the PCV valve and ran the car for a while. So far no more oil leaking but I'm being cautious. I'll watch it for a few more days before I declare it fixed. Your offer though was awfully nice and very much appreciated.
