dude, we need PICS!!! point at the issue and we can solve it. i've reread the whole post and still can't picture in my head what your having trouble with. one pic could solve all your problems.Trees aren't kind to me...

Just trying to think thru this whole process once more... you did completely remove the anti-sway bar from the lower control arms & frame mounts up front, right? As Brian pointed out, with the hub/rotor assembly still bolted to the shock/spring, and everything else out of the way, you should be able to get in with a hammer and pop the top of the ball joint stud & it "should" drop out the bottom. I also agree that a photo would greatly help identify the issue(s)!
