  • Stock Aspire exhaust

My 94 aspire still has the stock exhaust which is in pretty good shape and easily last another 5 years. The thing is i'm trying to decide for the sake of power and mileage if i'd replace from the cat back take out tthe resonator and muffler- use a less restrictive one. I wonder how much it would help. My festiva has alot more power as it seems, but even though this car is heavier with ac, it has better gearing. Can't believe the difference though if it wasn't for the ride in aspire I'd get rid of it. Anyone notice difference in the aspire when you when replace the exhaust?

    None.

The restriction of all stock exhausts is in the exhaust manifold and the cat.

Getting the FMS headers and running it without a cat might make you gain a small amount.

After all, how many HP can you possibly free-up when it only has 63 to begin with?

      EXHAUST

I put a complete, downpipe to muffler exhaust on my aspire salvaged from an escort gt. It is quite a bit larger diameter. I belive i acutally lost some torque from this because of the lack of back pressure. Unless your doing a b6 or larger swap i would stick with the stock exhaust. BTW mine was shot and the EGT one was free.

        Exhaust.

The stock exhaust system works VERY well for the 1.3l. Unless you plan some sort of power adder or an engine swap leave it be. The loss of back pressure will cost you some torque and a bunch of gas mileage. If you put a muffler on, try to stick with a baffled style that will provide at least some sort of back pressure.
Fast, fun and good gas mileage. 91' Festiva(RIP) and 96' Aspire(RIP). The website is no more.

Wait are saying that the escort exhaust will fit on the Aspire? If not how did you the downpipe and exhaust on? I find this very interesting. Because there are plenty of escorts in the junkyard around these parts.

            Escort Exhaust

Yeah The escort exhaust routes through the undercarrige in just the same way that an aspires does. Im talking about from the cat back, which in the aspires case in an a spring clamp right after the downpipe. When you get to the muffler part you may need to do some fab work but not much. My exhaust was from an escort GT so im not sure if the LX is the same but most likely is.
