  • tranny swap?

i found this car on CL and its needs a transmission. how hard is it to swap a 4 speed in for the 3 speed auto? i have a 4 speed in my parts car. (just sold a good 5 speed) car seems to be in fairly good shape other then the trans.

its a 92 GL with a bad auto.

looks in good shape, you'd need a whole list of parts (which is listed somewhere on here) it can be done but it would definately be easier to replace the auto tranny

        1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
        1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

No problem, It wasn't hard at all, I just remembered that ejp2fast did a write up, and I saw his name, so I searched under the threads he started, and I found it. Very fasinating how that search tool works!

maybe i can find an auto to replace it with. it does look like a nice car, although i haven't seen it in person.

Yeah, it would be a lot easier to put an automatic in there, but just imagine how nice it would be with a stick!(I'm in love with manuals)

grab a b6 sohc and drop it in with a new auto trans, it would be as much fun as a b3 w/ 4 spd :-)

I call him the other day. He said it hasn't ran in about 2 years. A bearing spun in the trans and the case is all chewed up. I'm guessing the output shaft bearing. Anyway he said the interior is tan and the drivers seat is replaced with a grey one. I was thinking about the swap too, but $500 for a non runner w/ a bad trans is alot.

yeah he told me all that also. i feel the same way about the price, but it is a GL. so i my eyes it has a little more going for it.

^^ i'd say $500 is a hair steep for a bad tranny car as well.. <$300 would be better. depending where you are ~$200 for manual trans at a JY.. go ahead and do the 5spd instead of 4 spd if you have a choice.
i just did the swap 2 months ago.
