Rear Defroster Not Working

My rear defroster has never worked in my car. With the recent weather it would be nice to fix. The entire rear window gets iced from the inside making it very difficult and dangerous to drive. What are some things to check? Fuses, the cables? I'd like to change it to a LX hatch with wiper, but this will have to do for now.

Mine only has 4 lines working.When I asked what to do everyone told me to change it.Yours is a little different prob.Seems like u r getting no juice at all.Hmmm...

There should be a fuse for this, but a lot of times the lines get little cracks that prevent current from going through. When this happens, you usually need to replace the window unless you can get some of the stuff that can be brushed on the lines to fill in the cracks. I do not recall the name of the product, nor do I know if it is still available. I remember my father getting some years ago for the back window of our old Toyota Corolla. I'll try to find out what the name of the stuff is and if it is still available.

you can still get the paint on stuff that will fill in any cracks or gaps you might have in the defroster lines. If you local auto parts store doesn't have any, give an autoglass place a call.

That stuff is very hard to find around here , I tried 2 different kinds .
Permatex brand and some off brand , neither worked at all , and I invested a lot of time trying to make it work .

That is why I replaced the glass.

It seems like none of the lines work. I could have the car on for 6 hours and it doesn't make a difference if the defroster switch is on or off, the ice isn't melted. It would be nice to have it working if it's a quick fix, if not I can live without it. Hopefully, I can find a LX hatch with defrost and rear wiper in the near future.

Terry we can test it at the hatch to make sure you are getting power back there. Thats simple.
