  • broken camshaft

I just bought a new $300 festy, 106k, '92, 5-spd, striaght body, small rust spot on hatch and on rear fender, but the cam shaft is broken. Should I just get a head from the yard or replace the cam shaft. Anyone do this before? any other mazda heads work better?

Broken camshaft? That's quite unusual to happen. Are you sure the timing belt hasn't just slipped off?

I saw the camshaft, the bolt for the gear is broken in the camshaft.

        you need head swap

if cam is sized in the head you need to replace the head assembly...the bearing are not replaceable...

          ps ...

change oil more often...i see it many time and it is due to oil contamination (gas in oil )

it can also be due to sludge in the rocker shafts starving the outer cam towers for oil.

replace the head (definately) and rocker shafts if you're not sure.
