  • Spark plug gap

    Hi Everyone,
Well, I'm getting new plugs for the DeathEgg ('88 L+) tomorrow. I see in my manual that the gap is .0390 - .043.

Not a big range of adjustment, but has anyone experimented, or just happened to notice, any difference between setting the plugs at the minimum or maximum gap? I usually just set them to .040, but would be interesting to see if there is a benefit to setting them differently this time.
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

I set them at the low end as well, so when they "burn open" your still within spec.

Theoretically....the bigger the gap the better the ignition of the fuel and a slight advance to the timing....also takes more goil to ge the arc to jump. The smaller the gap the the harder to ignite the fuel and a sslight retard to the timing.

0.039-0.043 does is too small of a range to make a difference.

Most important...they are gapped the same.

I use whatever comes on the spark plug gapping tool.
The only acceptable gap on the tool I have is 0.40.

                      OK!:p
Just that I'm forever forgetting to use "not" or "can't" in my replies so I generally let things go like that.
You are correct Joe provides good data and is one of the "go to" guys in many cases.
