  • shifter seems loose

Just bought my festiva, 1992, not sure if its just the way the shifters are or not but my shifter seems all over the place, is this a known thing or ...?

also the place i bought it form mentioned that it wasn't that bad before they did the exhaust, i guess they had to remove the shifter for some reason when doin the exhaust work ....

    sloppy...

The shifter has a ball socket it pivots in. After time the ball gets worn and it allows the shifter/ball to fall out of the socket. Yours may have done this. The shifters in the festiva/aspire aren't noted for having a shifter that is firm feeling anyway.
Fast, fun and good gas mileage. 91' Festiva(RIP) and 96' Aspire(RIP). The website is no more.

At the bottom of the shifter there are two plastic bushing that tend to wear. It's an easy fix and I got the bushings for my ford dealer for 15$CAN

And don't forget the two at the tranny end of the shift rod, and while your at it lube them with a silicone brake lube before they are installed.
