  • Ice + curb = ouch...how bad?

    Hey everyone,
the Festiva got a bit of a beating today, and I'm hoping its not too bad, but I don't know. I was driving with a few friends and we were doing a U-turn when we hit some ice and slid into a pretty tall curb (front right wheel hit facing sideways). We hit it pretty hard, and immidiately the car started running really rough- I thought it was the exhaust, so we got out and began to push it (it was actually up on the curb a bit). I tried to back up to help them push me off, but no reverse. I turned it off and got out to take a better look, and noticed a pool of dark red liquid under the car, coming out in a steady stream. We got the car towed to my mechanic here, and he's going to take a look at it tomorrow. How bad could it be? I guess it was transmission fluid; one of my friends told me I could've put a hole in my transmission...I hope not. Especially since this repair will be out of pocket...I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. Oh and we also warped the front right panel, and the passenger door will only open so far right now. Yippee.

    -Nick

Oh and on a positive note, the car just hit its 250,000 mile birthday 2 weeks/2000 miles ago...just got back to MD from Montreal last week.

i`m betting your ball joint failed and the axle pulled out of the tranny, allowing gear oil to leak out

Yup. Bet this is it. I had a bearing issue and ball joint failure, That's what happened.
