I put my Mutt in a local garage a few days ago and had a new fuel pump installed. She runs well for the most part but the same old problem that lead me to try to rebuild her carb (I couldn't do it) and then get a newused carb from Ebay is still with her.
She'll all of a sudden lose almost all power. Engine still barely runs but there's absolutely no get up and go. The exhaust manifold heats up and smokes (more so than usual), which seems odd to me and was why I at first thought it was a blocked cat (had a new cat put on last year and it didn't solve the problem).
A few minutes of revving and trying and cursing and she is able to go again.
This latest mechanic thinks it's still a carb problem. Evidently she didn't conk out on him and waited until I test drove her!
I could get my carb rebuilt nearby but it'll cost about $300, IIRC.
Or I could junk her.
Or she could be my winter project and turn her into FI. Lots of cussing and work would go into that one!
Any ideas of what could be wrong?
