  • Need tranny/shifter help please

Mine has 264000. It's a 1990 L. I have a question. I recently (this week) lost 1,3,5 gears on my 5 spd. A friend of mine and myself found that the u-joint in the shifter linkage is worn out. It's next to the trans. Does anyone have a replacement part number for this? I'm having trouble locating one and I need my 'stiva to drive to work.
    Thanks

My 93 lost it's transmission when it was new..like 20,000 miles...the linkage on top of the transmission supposedly had not been tightened after they adjusted the clutch at the dealer. Sounded like I had just gotten married and was dragging cans along the back of the car! I had NO gears! It had performed flawlessly and then BAM!

Go to www.rockauto.com. I'm pretty sure that they had the shifter bushing that you are looking for. At the very least, it will show you a part number, that you can cross-reference at a local parts place.

      Good Luck!

Even a used one from a JY or someones parts car would buy you time, maybe a lot of time!

Haven't been able to find one in a junk yard(called around Friday). No one around here seems to have any cars left. The Rockauto link has seals but no shifter u-joint. I'll pull it out and check with the industrial bearings places next weekend. Thanks again for the help.

It's embarassing but.... I looked again and it look like the diagram from Ford. NOT A U-JOINT. Still haven't found the bushing. Anyone have any ideas.

I made my shifter bushings out of door hinge pin bushings for a Chevrolet. I had to use a Dremel Tool to grind the inside diameter so the bolt would fit thru. Took about 10 min. to make them.

you can get a bushing assortmant from autozone for van doors. There are some in there that fit pretty good. They are an easy fix for a while.
