[QUOTE=One of the things I look for on my JY visits it recently replaced e-brake cables.[/QUOTE]

What's the easiest technique to pull the e-brake while at the jy? Do you pull everything to the handle?

The cable has to be disconnected at the lever. The cable runs under the seatbelt bracket so remove/lift/cut the carpet to access the bolts for that. There's a bracket bolted to the fuel tank too so be sure to unbolt that one (10mm I think). The rest of the attachment points are pretty obvious. Once everything is disconnected it pulls out from underneath the car.

To quote Haynes... "installation is the reverse of removal".

      Hope that helps

next time i'm at the JY i'll look at taking the cable out.... wouldn't hurt if they are prone to go bad.

It has been my experience that the lever rusts inside on its pivot point, allowing it to not work. If that is the problem, take your rear brake assembly apart, with e-brake assembly held onto with a pair of vise grips, torch the living crap out of it, spray with PBBlaster, hammer it on the concrete floor, back and forth, until loose. May require torching 4 or 5 times before loosening. Then, what I did, not telling you to do this, I added a little anti-seize between the metal to metal points on the assembly, so it wouldn't happen again. Mine has worked fine ever since.
Re-assemble. Good time to pack your bearing and replace brake pads if needed.
BINGO levitan! I just took the rear drum apart and that lever was totally immovable...
i didn't have a torch, but PB blaster and a 4lb hammer and about an hour of hitting that sucker back and forth, and FINALLY got it to pitot with my hand...

But now i have a different problem...

Since i tightened that 10mm LONG nut to adjust the cable (before i knew that the lever at the drum was not moving)...right at the e-brake handle, now, when i loosened the nut to get the slack i need, it won't loosen the cable.. is this a one-way tighten nut and how do i now get the parking brake cable to loosen?

can anybody answer this last post?

my problem is i can't get that pin in where the cable attaches to the lever... i need more slack from the cable to reach it. the passenger side is attached, but the drivers side isn't.

here is a picture. Notice how the nut is high, and the threaded cable is high.
I backed the screw out wanting the threads to go DOWN, but the nut went UP.

took off the cover that houses the parking brake and found that i when i loosened the nut, the cable was stubborn at going back through.. after some jostling, got it to go in and now i have enough slack to attach my drivers side cable to the lever.
