  • some minor problems

    hello guys and gals
ok i have a couple problems

first off when i shift i grind going into fifth and i just noticed it grinded when i put it in reverse. do i need a new clutch?

second im having this problem when i first start my car and drive it around a bit. if i pull up to a stop and then pull away in first gear it will stop accelerating for a second like its gonna stall, then goes, then does it again.

    its a manual 91 L with 110k miles

grinding likely is your synchro's in your tranny...
it likely isn't your clutch.. unless you are slipping. and you're sure your clutch is all the way in.

he means are you sure you are shifting correctly? could just be that you haven't mastered the stick shift yet. no offense intended.

They are those little brass thingies in the tranny that makes it possible for smoooth shifts.

Hesitation while pulling out in first gear....Bad ignition (plugs/rotor/cap/wires) or timing.
The ECU is not happy and trying to make adjustments to the timing.

I usually suggest wiping the ignition wires and distributor cap with a rag before replacing, and maybe spray with a moisture retardant like WD-40. I have to clean my wires once or twice a year. I've had this car since 1989.

The grinding problem might be caused by the clutch cable being out of adjustment, making it so the clutch is not fully disengaging.
