  • carb'ed Festiva idleing issue Q's

    Hello All
I recently acquired an awesome carb'ed 89' LX that I love, and I have just been going through the checklist of things to look at/replace after buying a car. I don't know that much about the carburated system and I searched on here about a few things to check, which(don't worry)I'll mention later.

    Ok so here's the problem:
The car starts great, but most of the time it idles a little high(@~2k-3kRPM) I have driven it about 600 miles and filled up the tank twice since I got it. I have yet to put in any HEET or carb cleaner. I added some seafoam to the carb(I couldn't get the vac hose off without breaking it) I don't think that the idle is set too high, because there are times that it idles at 500-700RPM. I am thinking that it might just be the choke is sticky or something like that. Also there is a slight click coming from the passenger side wheel when you turn right(Would that be the wheel bearing or the cv joint?). I am not too worried about it as it drives and runs fine except for a little sputtering when you first take off, which I hear is a bi-product of the carb'ed engines, and the over rev'ing issue. I haven't changed the spark plugs, but I was assured from a reliable source that the plugs, wires, distributor and a bunch of other things on there have been replaced.
I plan on changing the plugs' cuz there cheap to change, adding heet, carb cleaner, running some seafom through the gas.
Should I maybe put some PBblaster on the choke? or would that be bad?
Is there anything else that I should change or look at? Like I said I'm relatively new to the carb'ed festivas, so any heads-up here would be appreciated.

Hit the choke with some carb and choke cleaner. Also, check that all of your vacuum lines are connected and none are cracked. Bear in mind that if you have your headlights on, your blower on 2 or 3, or rear defogger turned on, that it will idle faster due to the idle-up circuit. It is supposed to do that. If all is turned off and it is idling too high while cold, a high idle adjustment may be necessary. This involves the screw on the back of the carb and not the plastic star wheel. The star wheel is your low idle.

The clicking is most likely your CV joint.
