  • drum brakes

    well i'm trying to take off the drums to inspect the shoes and also take the e-brake cable out because it snapped but i can get the drum off... so does anyone have any pointers on how to get the drums off.. i've never done em on a festiva beforedrool

    This may sound like a dumb question but...have you removed the spindle nut that's under the center grease cap??

      Thats not dumb... took me a while to figure out that I needed to do that...

          Just remember the right rear spindle nut is left hand thread, meaning you turn it right to loosen it, not lefty loosey. However, if you are already past that point, spray PBBlaster in the lug bolt holes and start whacking the drums with a rubber mallet. They will break loose and come off after some good whacks.

            Did that do it? If not give it a good beating. Make sure the drum turns okay, as in the pads are not 'engaged' on it.

                People have reported here putting the wheel back on loose and rolling the car to break the drums free. Not me, mine came off no problem.
