  • rebuilding my 1.3

Well I'm new here, Ive been searching around quite a bit but I cant find any posts relating to rebuilding the stock 1.3 liter.

I am picking up a 91 Fester from a buddy, teh engine is hot and Im going to yank it out, rebuild it, and stuff it back in. Im just wondering wheres teh best place to source parts for these things. Im not sure what all I need but are tehy readily available still?

Or should I just try and find a complete engine and swap that in to save myself the hassle?

I would swap the car but I live in CA and the car has been non-op for almost 10 years... its gunna take quite a bit to get this thing street legal again and I don't want to have to jump through 5,000 hoops to get it there

    Thanks in advance

i ended up getting my head gasket upper seal set on ebay, and other parts via local McParts place.... Anything they didn't have, rockauto.com did... depending on what route you want to go (rebuild vs swap) these engines are pretty straight forward as well as easy to work on. Price each source and go from there.

-"Hairlipstiva" 1991 GL 5spd (swapped from an auto), rolling on Enkei 14x6 +38 with 195/45/14 Toyo's, Jensen MP5720 CD deck, tach install, LED strip in cluster, down position rear wiper, FMS springs, Gabriel shocks on 4 corners, Acura Integra short shifter
-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...
    -Aspire brake swap COMPLETE!

if the car is a cali car i doubt they will go over it with a fine toothed comb.

          I rebuild my '92 1.3L over a year ago.
I purchased all my parts from NAPA...they included:
Upper end Gasket/seal kit (had all the parts for carbed and FI models
          Lower end gasket/seal kit
          Rod bearings
          Crank bearings
          Water Pump
          Clutch kit
          Rings
          Core plugs

Sent the head out and had the valves and seats ground.
Did not press in new guides...they pin gauged like new.
Did not mill the head....not required.
Did not mill the deck either.
Did not bore the block...I was under..thou near...max bore. Could not find oversized pistons
Did cross hatch (hone) the cylinders.
Dis-assembled the oil pump and had it vapor degreased.
I left the con-rods in the pistons and had them ultra-sonic degreased.
Welded and remachined one of the piston wherea ring broke.

It was very easy....really easy because I picked the short block out by my self.

It's a process where the parts go thru an heated/ultrasonic tanks that are heated to the vapor point of the solvent...after the last tank the parts are hung just above a tank of boilg solvent and the vapor (steam) cleans the part. Above the part are refreigereation coild that condense and return the solvet to the tanks so nothing evaporates to the atmosphere. These system use Freon, Tri-Chlor, or nPB. I'm forunate....we have this stuff at work.
