  • Spark plugs? What spark plugs? We don't need no stinking spark plugs!

So i thought i would pull the spark plugs out of the 93 we bought a few months ago. Wrong! I got 3 loose and one will not budge. On two of the plugs when i pulled the wires off the center electrode came out of the plug. I think the plugs were never changed in 148,000 miles! I soaked the tight one with PB Blaster and walked away from that part of the project for the rest of the day. Do you think i should get the engine hot several times while it's soaked in the PB before trying to get it out? The car isn't on the road so there's no big rush to get it out.But i would like to try and avoid stripping the threads in the head. Or worse yet snapping the plug off in the head. Has anyone ever had any luck soaking a frozen one loose? Thanks

When ever you don't know the history of the plugs in an aluminum head....it always best to pull the plugs while the engine is hot...less risk to the threads....more risk to your hands.

Thanks for the links. I did a search but i didn't see those. And i figured trying it with the head hot would be best. I've done the repair thing several times before on VW air cooled heads and their head studs. But never on a water pumper. Just trying to avoid it! If possible.

It's out! Two PB sprays and 4 warm ups till the fan kicked in and chilled the socket and extension to -5F in the freezer over night. Gave the ratchet a few wacks with the palm of my hand and heard the crack. Boy is that a load off of my mind!
