  • CV joint - driveshaft circlip

    I've had one break!

It's the circular, spring steel piece of wire that sits in the groove on the driveshaft and holds the CV joint on.

I'm unable to source one locally. Has anyone got one laying around they can measure up for me please (or even post to the UK)? I may be able to adapt something to fit.

NAPA-CarQuest-Maybe a local hardware store that has all those assorted drawers of Hillman Hardware. Maybe even a local tranny shop.

Domestic manufacturers are Waldes-Tuurac or Rotoclip.

Never over strech it while removing or installing...when putting a new on on slide it (drag) over the splines and let it fall in place. If it is over streched...not hard to do...the axle will pop in and may never pop out!

      Update.

On taking the gaiter off, I found the remaining part of the circlip (they're actually called snap rings) nestling in the groove of the drive shaft, so at least it hadn't been floating around damaging the CV.
I had no luck sourcing one locally, but found a spring clip of similar diameter amongst my 'things that may be useful one day'. I don't know what I did to it's temper in cutting and bending it to a suitable replacement, but it sort of fitted. The CV took an awful lot of force getting it back in situ - I hope I never have to remove it again!
I cleaned up the gaiter and then couldn't find the pinhole the rest of the old clip came out of.
