Hatch automatically locks ...?

I installed new lock from another festiva and everytime I shut it ,it automatically locks.Any one ever have this problem ?

I noticed at a junk yard the other day that all of the hatches were locked, anyway to unlock them without the key? But answer his ? before mine.

Open the hatch so that you can see the lock mechanism mounted to the hatch itself.
Believe on the right side of it is a metal slide mechanism.
In its current position it locks when you shut it.
In it other position it does not.
Can get pic if you need.

Brian,this is the new hatch I installed.I will try the lever and see if that works,first.

The lock lever on the hatch latch must be hitting the car when it closes.

And to unlock the hatch w/o a key (junkyard fro instance) ... from inside remove the panel on the hatch, reach inside and find the rod. move it up or down until you feel and hear it unlock.
