my carbed Festy runs great! Ok, let me try to understand what you mean. The will not start on its own, correct? however, if you pour gas into the throat of the carb, its tarts and runs at high rpm for a few seconds, then dies? Is this correct?
If so, then the problem is clogged main jets. The mains feed the idle circuit and transfer circuits in the carb. The accel circuit is fed directly from the bowl. Watch the accel enrich spiggot above the throttle plate as you open the throttle to full (engine off, not cranking). If fuel squirts out, you have fuel in the bowl. Remove the two large plugs at the bottom of the bowl. They are on the passenger side of the carb, facing the strut tower. You now have direct access to the main jets. They are about 1-2 inches in behind those plugs. Use a good carb cleaner (ex.- B12 Chemtool) with a straw on the valve (the little red one that comes with the can), and blast those mains clean. Put the plugs back in, crank it several times to get fuel back in the bowl, and it should start, if that was the only problem.
And the secondary venturi is vacuum operated, so the engine must be running for it to open.
hope that helps.Jim DeAngelis
