  • Inner tie rod removal

Ok I got the rack off and in a pipe vise, drilled out the lock pin, got the passenger side off but cant budge the drivers side. They arent reverse threads are they ? Not that it would matter because I cant turn them either way. Any tips ? Got my biggest pipe wrench and cheater bar on it. It just spins in the vise. Dont want to ruin the gears on the rack.

Never mind I got it. Found a better way to clamp it. New question. Do new inner tie rods come with a new lock pin or are the even needed, maybe just a little tread seal instead ?

Cool Joe thanks for the info ! I got the rack cleaned up and was going to put new inners on only to find out the ones I had bought from someone here wouldnt fit. They have a fine thread and a different spaced slot to clamp the boot. Wish I knew what they went to, I give them to someone who could use them. Oh well, I have to order new boots anyway so I guess Ill get some inner tie rods while Im at it. I can work on the aspire brakes in the mean time.

Sure, Im documenting it anyway for my "First engine swap build thread" anyway. I was following the shop manual but when it came to the locking pins it says. "Remove locking Pins", wow, big help there. Im using the aspire manual for the brakes since its an aspire brake swap. Pretty much the same as the festiva. The rack was caked, I scraped, brushed, and used degreaser then repeated until the metal was showing then I use a wire brush on a high speed drill, shined it right up. Now I can tell its a TRW rack and pinion.

I've got the same problem as you Fresh with the inner tie rod end and I have a question is there a specific year for the fine thread tie rod or is it just Rodger at FMS that send me the Aspire inner tie rod end?
