door switches and dimmer switch

i just put in a dome light from a newer taurus, i have the constant power but no ground with door open or closed as well as when i use my dimmer switch to put on the interior light it also does nothing. common problem? i didnt have an interior light before so i know i didnt mess anything up.
i supplied a ground to make it work for now and im only using the map lights (threw the factory switches) but would like to make it work with the doors... any clues?

The Festiva dimmer switch has no connection to the dome light. It's just the three position switch at the light itself... on, off, and door.
