hey everybody I have a new problem. the oil problem is fixed but now the festy sputters at 1/4-1/2 throttle it is like it falls on it's face then get's it's power back (or dies if I am not quick with the clutch) and seems to be worse if you put load on the engine like going up hill..

it runs great when you give it more throttle than it needs and it idles fine (starts high but after it warms up 5-700rpm) anyone have Ideas?

Sounds like the problem I'm having with my festiva. I'll assume it's a carbed festy...try running some carb cleaner through the tank, then replace the fuel filter, then check the spark plugs, distributor, cap and rotor. and if it still does it you may need to rebuild the carb, or get a new one. hope this helps

y'all need to check your accelerator pump operation. pul off the air box and open up the choke plate. look down the primary barrel (closest to firewall) and manualy operate the throtle. you should see a sharp stream of fuel squirting into the primary. if you see nothing or a dribble, you need to address the pump diaphram. you don't have to tear the carb apart to do this as the pump sits on the back side of the carb and cen be removed via 4 philips head screws.

Could also be bad ignition/timing....check the condition of the dist cab and rotor....the syptoms could be from crud...the controls are trying to advance the ignition and the crud is preventing such.

Probalbly not wires or plugs...they are usually bad at all driving conditions.

My neighbor next door is working on a late '80s Festy and his was running well but would stumble under load. Mitchell on demand told him it was the clutch pedal position switch and that it controlled way more than just acting as a safety neutral switch. He told me that and I thought... WHAT??

I gave him one off a parts car, I still can't believe that's his trouble but I've seen crazier. I'll talk to him tomorrow and see if that's the case.

The clutch pedal position switch was bad on my '88. Put a new one on and it cured the problem, the same problem you are having.

just spray it with some brake clean... it's just an on/off switch.

clutch pedal switch messing with carb wtf? I've never heard of that but I guess it couldn't hurt. I replaced the coil, plugs and egr valve problem is still there. I will replace the fuel filter tomarrow and check the accelerator pump and some other things

                  thanks you guys

ok changed the fuel filter problem still persists. checked the pedal switch it seems to be working fine but I will go get a new one tomarrow I am going to rebuild the carb the accelerater pump is working fine but it did just drink a bunch of oil when I first started it so I am assuming that it could use it anyway.
