  • Decelerating too slow.

One day as i pulled into my parking spot the car wouldn't idle bellow 1500rpm. I turned off the car and restarted and it stopped. It seems to happen when it is very cold and it last for about 10 minutes. I put some Lucas oil stabilizer and fuel injector cleaner but it still happens now and then. I noticed now that it takes a little longer for it to drop down. Some times it stays at 1500rpm for 3 seconds then it drops back to normal. Just did tune-up and it runs fine most of the time.

    What could it be?

Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is dirty and sticking. Clean it with some Seafoam or similar.

        oh, sorry.

locate the hose on the driver's side of the inlet tube, over top the valve cover. Follow that hose down behind the engine, on the bottom driver's side of the intake manifold. The device at the end of the hose is the IAC. Disconnect the hose from the inlet tube, and pour 2-3oz of Seafoam down this hose, and let it sit for at least 15 minutes before you start the engine. Make sure you reconnect the hose before starting the engine, too.

          ^X2

I had a sticking IAC on my 90 jeep cherokee and it was stuck wide open one day and that was really scary. I unbolted it, cleaned it popped it back in and it has lasted more than 4 years with no probs.

Could be a cracked or loose hose from the IAC to the intake manifold.
