  • Idle probelm

Ok, I just got done doing my timing belt and water pump, and I went to start it up and it was idling really high. So I decided to take it for a drive real quick and everytime I had to stop to push in the clutch it would start idling high again.. so my question is why is it idling so high and what can I do to get it back to normal?

When ever the timing belt is changed...the base timing should be checked/adjusted.
If all is fine...including driveabilty..except for the high idle.
Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to reset the ECU/base timing.
Other wise look for a leak in the air intake system or disconnected TPS.

also, when you fill your radiator, start the car with the rad cap off for the first time when you re-fill it to get rid of air bubbles in the system for 5 or so minutes... you may have air in the system causing your cold (ie high) idle may be on all the time.

Well, I fixed the problem. My dad, being the funny guy he is, when I was doing the timing belt and wp and I had that pulley on backwards and he knew the whole time, just didn't tell me because I didn't want to ask him. Well, he went into the garage before I had the car all back together and he tightened the throttle cable to mess with me. Well, when I had that problem with the pulley he told me sometimes I should swallow my pride and ask him once in a while, so I asked him about this high idle and he started busting up laughing. When he finally settled down, he told me what he did and was happy that I learned how to swallow my pride... I was kind of pissed... but oh well.

well, your dad sounds like he has a sense of humor... and is bringing/brought you up right. Your dad (if he is like mine) knows much more than I will ever know about cars and many times we want to figure it out for ourselves. You came to us here before you went to him.. and you haven't met us (or most of us)..

Dads know more than we think..

Glad your problem is solved nonetheless.. SHOUT GOES OUT TO ALL THE DADS OUT THERE!
