  • sloppy shifter

    My shifter is very sloppy. What does it take to rebuild it? I did a search, didn't find anything.
    1992 Subaru Legacy
    1988 Chevy Caprice Classic

    better shifter

    There must be a better more solid shifter out there. I haven't looked in to that yet. It will be on my list for next winter's project. I will even fabricate one if I have to.

      all you need to do is replace the bushings in the linkage. I am sure others will post on this....has been discussed several times. But in the mean time you can go to autozone and get some door hing bushings for a van. they sell assortment packs. There are some in the pack that are a pretty close match.

        Okay, I did another search and found a good thread on this. Sounds easier than the shifter rebuild for my Jetta.

          It is very easy....just use PB Blaster prior to working on the bolts so things come apart easier. It is a wondrous product.
