1993 festiva

Hello i just picked up a 93 fesiva L today in nj which failed emissions for HOx he said it was the egr valve and if i just clean it out it should pass. I don't know the location of egr and is this hard to remove? some say that it does't have one and you can't buy one . thanks for any help

not aware of an EGR on the EFI festys. but if it's there, it's on the passenger side of the intake right behind and below the oil cap. once you remove it, soak it in carb or brake clean and run a flexible wire into the hole it covers on the intake.

fuel injected Festivas did not have an EGR valve, only the carb'd ones had them

first check your timing

then check your general tune up items including fuel filter and the timing belt itself (you never know what may happen in the future)

I just went for an emissions check with my van. It had a big hole in the muffler, but the mechanic never bothered to crawl underneath to take a look. He just put the sniffer in the tailpipe and I was lower emissions in all categories at 200,000 miles, than when the van was brand new. Amazing, isn't it? Oh, by the way, I also poured in a bottle of "Guaranteed to Pass" into my gas tank, before taking the test. Good Luck.

On my cars that have been marginal I the past, I fill it with 93 and add a bottle of the green water remover (alcohol) from AZ.

Make sure the cats are nice and hot before going into the check.

Never failed me yet.

Thanks everyone for your help i just ordered the helm shop manual FPS1213393 today was 60.00 back in 1992 but now 30.00 way better than the one from advance auto. It should be next week so i can see if it has one or not and make some other needed repairs.website is www.helminc.com was 30.00 + shipping

126000 miles was in poor shape will take a couple of weeks to repair will keep everyone posted on my progress on the egr vavle issue my book will be here on monday .
