  • 1993 festiva rear parking brakes

has anyone done them? did you have to replace the spindle nut or reuse it. my problems is the parking brake will not disengage might have rust or just seized up. I temporay remove the cable so i only have the driver's side. what Does the rear hardware kit come with? It is where the cable attaches to the rear drum a little arm.

Ive read a few threads and yes, that back little plate on rear brakes does rust and sieze up. If it is not too bad you can break it free. Just keep spraying wd-40 or any rust eater on them. I did my back breaks and used the same spindle nut. It don't hurt to have couple new ones on hand just in case.

Ditto to that. It seems like once a year or so I have to do this job on the parking break arm (I live in a rough witner environment though) Most likely will break free after ALOT of back and forth turning while spraying with what's mentioned above. You might even hae to use dual vice grips to get them to move at first, and your hands will be filthy afterwards.

Use PB Blaster instead of WD40. WD40 is a water inhibitor while PBB is intended to penetrate and is better for breaking the spendles loose. It works on a lot of stuff as I'm learning.
