  • Quick VAF Question

I've seen a few people here have had the same kind of issue I'm having with my 1991 FI Festiva.....it will crank and run as long as I pump the gas pedal after cranking. I see on the site that it is likely a vacuum leak or someting to do with the VAF. I am checking out the VAF right now and used my Haynes Manual to check the voltage at the VAF terminal and all is as it should be. Now I have the 'breather box' off the car and have the top section off it and have this question: Should there be some kind of gasket between the top section and the bottom section of this assembly? There was none on the one I have, but the fella that had the car before me had this same issue, so I'm wondering if, during his work on the car, he might have missed putting the gasket back on. Seems a simple question, so simple I didn't see anything in the book about it. Any help would be most appreciated!

BTW, the vane inside the VAF moves freely and returns easily to nominal.

Never mind guys.....dumb fella had no air filter in the box and the rubber rim of the air filter acts as a kind of gasket, it appears....didn't help, though....back to the vacuum search!
