  • 4 and 5 speed drive ratios

    1st- 3.454:1

    2nd- 1.911:1

    3rd- 1.275:1

    4th- 0.861:1

    5th- 0.692:1

    Reverse- 3.58:1

    Final drive- 3.777:1

4 and 5 speed transaxles are identical except for the added fifth gear. In the 4 speed, the fifth driving and driven gears are replaced with spacers.

I may be trying to replace a reverse idler soon, so I bought a training manual off ebay. Got all excited about my new wealth, and just had to act like it was news. Thanks.

Not that it would make all that much difference, but I always thought 2nd was 1.94:1

In case anyone wants to know, the Aspire trans has the same ratios. The final drive is different. 4.058:1
Festiva: Because even my dog can build a Honda.

maybe I just haven't found it yet looking around this forum, but is there a resource with tranny info, Model and or part numbers for each year? More importantly are the gear ratios above valid for all years?

Interesting info. Can a higher 5th gear be done?

I'd have to say the lower final drive in the Aspire would be a cause for worse highway mpg.

It is worse. By about 2-3 MPG

It's louder too, but the acceleration is better.
