  • Fixing shoulder belt track problem

I did a search on fixing the shoulder belt, and read what other people said. My driver side shoulder belt no longer moves reliably from the A-pillar to the B-pillar on its track. Some issue with a switch, I understand.

Here's what I did as a simple fix:
    1. took off the track cover; it's held on with fasteners that pop into the body--you'll need a flat screwdriver or similar to pop them out
    2. disconnected the electrical connector on the A-pillar that is supposed to move the little black shoulder belt receiver
    3. put the track cover back on
    4. used a 5mm hex socket to wind the shoulder belt receiver from the A-pillar to the B-pillar; now it just stays there (on both sides of the car there is a little round access cover, where the rear seat bottom touches the body--basically below the B-pillar--behind this cover is where you wind the black receiver part back to the B-pillar)

When I get in the car, I just clip the shoulder belt into the black receiver; an extra step, but it will reliably stay there now. The passenger side works as it's supposed to. Not the "elegant, proper" solution, but it works fine. No worries about a ticket, safety, or if it will be in the mood to work. Also don't have to try to source the switch or underseat control box.

Could be the module located under the drivers seat. Or the wire in the door on the door latch. Festivamotorsport.com has modules cheap.

I had the same problem with my Escort.
The system operates by a motor wind or spoolin or a cable into the track that move the clasp back and forth. The sheath of the cable wears out abd the entire mechanism gets bound up. I ended up at the bone yard to get a replacement. the first one i took home had the same problem...on the next trip I took a battery with me to test them befor I took it home....went thru 3 before i got a good one. A very common problem.

        Seat belt fix

Thanks for the info guys. I just wanted to do it this way since now it will never be a problem again. And any used part I get will fail at some point, and I didn't want to be bothered with all this.
