  • Installing intermittent wiper

I have an orange Festy inter. wiper for my '88. Everything works when I installed it except the intermittent. Same way with a white one. Looking at the terminals and plug, there is 6 on the switch part and only 5 in the harness plug. Can't find anything from searching the forum about needing to add a wire to do this upgrade. Any suggestions?

Since I'm changing from an orange switch without intermittent to one with intermittent, what do I have to do to make the intermittent work?

Easy swap....I believe that you are just trying to change the stalk.....but you need to change the control box that it is attached to also...here is a pic with the parts you need....

I'm changing the whole thing. In the picture above, you can see the 6 terminals on the module. My wiring harness only has 5. It plugs up fine; but there's one wire missing.

Nobody ever tried to put intermittent wipers on an 88?

                    Update

Apparently I have an early 88 model. I looked at my 88 parts car and it had all 6 wires in the harness plug. So I removed the terminal and a few inches of wire and installed it in the empty slot in the plug. Looked at the schematic in the Haynes manual and saw that it was supposed to have 12 volts. So I ran a hot wire from the fuse box. Works fine now.

If your 88L doesn't have rear defrost, the wiring for power mirrors, int. wipers, defrost, and some other stuff isn't present. I believe this only was for the 88-89 models; 90+ had all the wiring even if your model was the bare bones one.

I had an '88 with the "simplified" interior wiring harness and couldn't get the int. wipers to work either.

You're right. It's a bare bones 88L. I installed intermittent wipers and power mirrors on my 93L today and they work fine.

Old thread I know... I am having the same situation on my '89. I got the arm and module and installed them, but no intermittent. I have the same 5 wire plug that should be a 6 wire plug for the new module. Has anyone else figured this out? Can I just stick a jumper wire from one pin to another? Thanks in advance.

I was just wondering if there was another hot going into the switch already that I could just jump off of. Also, he didn't say whether it was 12v switched or constant.
