A lot of times newer radios have security precautions in order to deter theft. If the battery is disconnected this could trigger the system. If you have access to the user manual there should be a procedure to reactivate it by pressing a series of digits. These digits should be somewhere in the manual, or on a separate card with the OEM documents. Another shot could be to call a dealer with your VIN and serial number for the radio and they can look up the security code, normally for a fee of course. If not you're radio is probably fubar'ed and you should look into something aftermarket.

There's a lot of aftermarket stereo equipment floating around. I say let the factory unit sleep with the fishes.
