do you pull the gear and the cable or can you just pull the cable out of the gear and connect it to anther car (getting new gear from junkyard)

this should help you and also the speedo gear assembly is used as the dipstick and fill hole for the manual transaxle.

I would get both the cable and the gear if you are pulling from a junk car. In the picture that mechanicaldj provided, be careful when you tighten bolt "B", as the bolthole tab on the speedometer gear can break off. :wink: This happened on my '88 and the speedometer gear popped out while I was driving :shock:

Does any one know where i can buy a speedometer gear assembly somewhere on the internet the flange that bolt B goes through to bolt onto the tranny snapped and i tig welded it back together but I have an oil leak now.

Did you remove the o-ring before you welded it? See the o-ring in the oil level photo above - the black "thingy" just below the flange. Unless you really messed up the groove that the o-ring goes in, a new o-ring should stop your leak.

Yeah i removed the o-ring i even took out the sprocket shaft there is a little pin to know out then it slides right out. I was hard to weld because it had another oil seal inside which is similar to the camshaft oil seal that the camshaft fits into in the head if you're familiar with that you know it's a jerk to take out. So i left that seal in and to make sure it didn't burn up i immersed it in water and welded it and put it back together.

Yep, That little ear will break off easy enough. I am surprised you were able to weld it since it is pot metal (most likely cast aluminum). What I did was a little easier. I used some flat washers to hold it in (you might have the grind a flat on a couple closest to the tran and make a nice fit on the one holding it in. Seemed to work O.K. so far. The O-ring should be the cause of the leak but I believe there is another seal inside that seal the gear to the casting. That might be your leak.
