  • URGENT!!1996 WB auto Festiva 1.3L motor stalls

    Have a motor that cuts out within 5 mins of idle and then a lot of clicking sounds as though the injectors, idle motor etc are ALL working at once. The fan cooling motor goes up and down [on to almost off] at the same timing as to the clicking sounds.
    There are no codes showing up.
    The motor runs longer, but at a slower speed with a scan tool attached...I am wondering if their is an earth problem and the scan tool has provided a pathway.?
    Have checked earths, battery volts .
    Would the computer be the problem?
    The computers have so many different numbers stamped on this model, does anyone know the correct number for this festiva trio?

    Sounds like a bad ground to me. You are in Australia correct? Here in the states its called an Aspire. Update your profile with your location as there are a few member from your country that might be near you or can help.

      Thankyou for the reply.
      Yes I am in Roma Queensland Australia.
      This problem is showing up as :
      .....battery has a drain [2yr old.have charged, sg tested, and load tested as all ok]
      ........when turning ignition on [from cold] the radiator cooling fan comes on in full.
      ........tested for codes with jumper lead and L.E.D lamp at diagnosis box [led light is on]
      ......then the clicking relay on/off sounds appear AND the led starts to register code 09 [coolant temp sensor] . I remove the coolant temp plug and the clicking still goes on.
      Have you any more suggestions please??

        Its just clicking when you try to start it right? Do you have another battery that you can try?

          The clicking [with a new battery] is better than ever [very healthy in that area!]
          It is not a starter solenoid problem, but I would say it is a slightly similar sound that comes from the injector and airbox area...the motor is in ON position AFTER the motor has badly run rough and stalled.
          The motor cuts out even earlier now.After about one/two minutes.
          The cooling fan is full bore after a few minutes of running [when something 'cools down' ,the fan stops,to allow firing to start the motor ,again, from somewhere]
          Have no injector pulse when motor will not start yet cooling fan is running and motor is cold [about 20C temp,not above 97C]
          When the cooling fan stops and there is no clicking, [the ignition is ON ]and the idle stepper motor makes a slight humming noise
          All push in fusesat the fuse box near the battery are able to be removed EXCEPT the centre 80A one which is super TIGHT at present in its position [?]
          Have taken the computer out, all looks good as new, tight connectors, no visible circuit problems.
          Your assistance is greatly valued. I WILL persist until the problem is fixed.
