  • Speedometer Cable Keeps Snapping

    First off... i have used the Almighty Search Button, no luck.

    Ok... when i bought my festy it had no speedo. I replaced the cable buttt, id get to about 50 and whirrrrr SNAP!. it has happend twice right after i replaced it... i mean on the test drive. The needle works, but the cable just snaps.

    ANY IDEAS
    88' L 4spd all stock (as far as this thread is concerned)

    have you been lubing the cable with that graphite lube or anything else?

        mines did the same thing, it snapped, and where should i connect it first to by the engine or behind the speedometer thing? which first?

          connect it behind your instument cluster first.... because you need to pull the cluster towards the steering wheel to even get your hands to it...
          then, once connected, push the cluster into place, and go around to the engine bay and pull it through the firewall.... and then connect to the top of the transmission.
          For removal, its reverse.

            I did not lube it... didnt think it would do much good... but i'm starting to think that i may need a new cluster because i went to turn it and it had a major area of rough. any way to pull it out and clean it?

                glad you got it.. did you take apart the cluster gear?
