  • rusting gas tank

Well i was going to put my gas tank back into my car when i noticed rust forming on it. its mainly around the holes to bolt it to the vehicle. I have no idea what i should do. My first thought was sandblast the tank then powder coat it. any suggestions would be great.
    THanks!

it looks like the rust is spreading between the layers of metal. hopefully it isnt in the tank...

maby get all the rust out of the crack there and soak that corner in a rust dissolver chemical, then spray some paint in there and clamp it back together... maby that would work... but i dont know much about rust proofing a car, im from BC lol....

I'm looking at getting a newer or new one because of that same rust. If it goes beyond the seam weld your done. If you got it in time the above is a good idea. If wo do the above treatment, be sure to stand the tank so a little gas can soak that area from the inside for an hour or so after the work is done. That way if it does leak you will know before you have it installed and full. Good luck

I'd poke the rust out with a broken hacksaw blade then fill the gap with household epoxy adhesive and clamp. Put some plastic bag between the tank and the clamp if you ever want to remove the clamp. Then paint with rust paint. I'd expect to get 5 more years out of the tank with that treatment.
