this may be a silly question. i need to remove the crank bolt. i have read other posts that say to use 4th gear and an impact. my silly question is, does the car need to be on all fours? or does the tranny give enough drag. dont laugh, i just cant seem to warp my mind around this.

    thanx

No it doesnt have to be on the ground. You forgot one thing though. Its four gear and a buddy with his foot on the brake. If you have an impact you probably dont need fourth or a buddy.

A stick of wood wedged between the brake pedal and the seat can substitute for a buddy. I stand a piece of plywood in front of the seat to avoid damage.

I did it with an impact alone. No problem.
