  • Tranny Issue

New to the group but it certainly looks like the right place to be. I just purchased my 2nd Festiva knowing it had a tranny problem but a low mileage engine and a new clutch, tires and brakes etc.

The tranny issue is that it kicks out of gear you can't keep it in as it forces it's way out. I'm in the process of locating another tranny but thought I'd run it by everyone here as to the issue first to see if anyone has dealt with this, seems like a Syncro issue? And second is it less expensive to repair or replace?

Input shaft bearings is my guess. Can be repaired, but quicker and easier to just replace the transmission.

check your linkage bushings and engine/trans mounts, they may need replaced. too much play/movement can cause the trans to kick out.

Thanks guys, found a 5 speed already out for $100 so I bought it, source was reliable or at least I know him and trust him so his word that it's good should be good, now for the tranny swap, the car won't start right now, turns over great but no fuel, pulled the fuel line and no fuel. Swapped out the fuel pump in my other Festiva and that wasn't the issue so I have a good fuel pump ready to go in.

Man these cars are a blast. I'm a manager at the business I work at and the other managers come rolling in in new Honda's and BMW's and I cruise in in a Festiva with flames on the hood, how sweet is that.

Thanks again, I'll certainly check the mounts and linkage first, might save some work.
