  • I think I'm screwed...

Is the exhaust the same from before the catalyitic converter to after the muffler the same from 89' to 91'? my problem is that I pulled/cut off my old muffler/pipe/cat off of my 89'LX and I am trying to put on a cat/pipe/muffler from a 91'...will it work or am I screwed now that I took off the old one? I noticed that the cats are different. on the 89' there is a pipe going back into the engine somewhere...I think it might be a recirculater or something...It is not on the 91' ...is it necessary? is the length and shape of the middle pipe the same on both cars? can I just swap out the cat and will it fit? I am out of time for today and I have to go to work tomorrow, so as soon as I can figure this out the better. Thanks Guys!

just build a block off plate for the AIR tube on the down pipe and everything else is the same.

^^ The carbed Festies had basically a return tube from the cat back up to the air cleaner housing. The FI's are just a straight through cat. So, like festyboy said, just block off the small tube coming off the side of the cat that you have, and you should be fine.

I was just worried that their might be some sort of pressure problem, but if not, than cool!
I took a bolt and shoved/screwed it up into the hose and clamped it down, do you think that will be enough? Thanks again guys! I drove it to work today and I found out that I have to get used to driving something so quiet again...lol

Should do it. Guess you will know when you fire it up. When I bought mine (direct fit for a carbed festiva) that little pipe on the cat was capped off, and it was not easy to break that cap. But I think for an FI festiva, all I needed to do was leave that cap in place. So you should be fine.

Just so you know I have an 89' carb'ed and I put an FI cat on it. I plugged up the pipe coming from the engine.

My bad, guess my advice was backwards. Thought you meant you had a carbed cat on a FI car. Not really sure what happens if you block the tube coming down from the carb.
