  • What a day!

These cars are so much fun. Not that I'm telling you guys anything but it's like one adventure into the next. Spent the day trying to get my little blue one running. I knew I wasn't getting gas as it just wouldn't fire so I pulled the fuel lines at the fuel filter, got gas before the filter but I wasn't sure it was pumping or just draining. Decided to change out the plugs so I ran up and got some new plugs and came back and wouldn't you know I busted one of the plugs off. %^$&.

Anyone have a good solution for getting the remaining threads of the plug out? They sure don't want to cooperate.

I went ahead and put in a fuel pump that I knew worked and it will start now, wish I would have tried that first.

Guess it just wants me to play with it some more.

The hex or part you put the socket on is out, I have it in my hand. :-( The only thing left in the block is the threads, it is hollow so I can get an easy out in it but the easy out I have is not very long and it's 3/8 square like a ratchet so it's not simple to get a wrench on it to turn it. I found a socket that I could get on it and I got some pretty good beef into and it didn't break loose but the socket finally gave up and stripped out.

I called my favorite mechanic and he said to keep spraying the crap out of it with WD40 and not to worry, he can fix it.

Swapped out the tranny today, wish the heck I could take it for a spin and see how it works, if some dumb #$$ hadn't broke of the spark plug.

first....throw away the WD40 and get some PB Blaster...much better product.
Second get yourself a can of air duster....stuff you use to blow off the comp keyboard and stuff. Start the car and let it get warm. Once you got it hot shut it down,,,,hold the air duster upside down and spray it on the broken piece of the plug. When you turn it upside down it will pump the fluid out of it and cool the plug off...contracting it....after a good shot get that easy out on it quick and see if you can get it to budge.

Look at the bright side: The plugs would have to come out eventually anyway if you want max power and mileage. At least you can deal with it now when you got the tools out and not some Sunday afternoon when you have to rely on it to get to work the next day.

My '93 also had frozen spark plugs. I tried soaking them numerous times with every penetrate I could find for several years. Ended up waiting until I had the trans out to put a clutch in it and just pulled the head off. Replaced the timing belt and water pump while I had it apart.

Loctite now makes a "freeze out" type of spray similar to using the upside-down air duster can. I have used it several times with success.

I'll take your advice up to the point of get it running and get it hot, I can't keep it running, it fires but won't stay running right now, not sure if it's the missing plug or what, never did get it up and running good before I broke the plug. I did get it to fire after changing the fuel pump but it's not staying running yet. PB Blaster, can you get it anywhere? Wal Mart, AutoZone? My buddy told me to use Panther Piss? Not sure if that's slang for WD or what, I remember the term but don't recall exactly what it is.

pb blaster should be at any auto parts store. If you can not keep it running you can always use a propane torch (make sure there is nothing flammable around the flame) and heat the area then use the air duster or the loctite spray (didn't know they made that) and hopefully get the plug out.

Actually a really good place to pick up PB blaster is Biglots/Oddlots which ever it's called in your area. I think its under $3 a can.

The Loctite spray is called "Freeze and Release". You may only be able to get it through Industrial Distribution. I sell it at work. May be able to get it through Grainger or Fastenal as well. I thought I saw a similar product in WalMart a few weeks back. Yes, Panther Piss is slang for any rust disolver or penetrate. AeroKroil is the best I have ever found, but PB Blaster is a close second and I buy it at WalMart.
