  • Door Pull/Knob & Door Panel

I honestly have no idea what it is called. It probably is something simple, but where do I find a replacement door pull/knob? You know the little thing that is next to the window sill and you push it down to lock the door and pull up to lock the door? Not to be confused with the actual door handle. Would I have to call Ford to get one? They are the same in the old ford escorts and I am sure in other cars.

Also how do I take the door panel off? Are there just 3 screws and I guess the manual window handle? I think my pop up door pull/knob may be sticking and/or needs to be lubricated.

        Is it possible

to just change the door pin/pull without having to change the entire assembly? also if it turns out I need a new assembly (will be looking inside the door over the weekend) is swapping the key cylinder required to install the new door pin/pull assembly

Never actually tried changing the 'door pull', but changed both my inner and outer door handles, and kept the same locks. Don't see why you would have to change the locks to replace what you need.

            Hmmm

See I was told the door pin/pull is attached to the I guess "rod"/locking assembly and as a result you have to change the whole assembly. I was told it's not like the newer cars of today where you can just unscrew them and screw on a new one..mostly because ours are square. Keep in mind I haven't opened up my door, so I have no idea what this door "pin/pull" assembly looks like.

If anyone can confirm this that would be great!

According to my Hayne's, all rods are attached to the locking mechanism by plastic pieces, and all rods are removable at these plastic piece locations. In the process of tearing mine down right now. Got the doors off, but haven't removed any of the hardware inside of them yet. (That will come later, when I'm ready to prep it for paint). I'm sure there's someone on here who has done what you are talking about, that can answer for certain, but I'm going to say you can change the part you want to change without changing the door locks.

I think you are right and you can change the door pin pull assembly without having to change the door lock itself, but I also want to know if it's possible to just get a new door pin/pull? That's the crux of all of this. I may be missing some of the plastic clips which is causing my door not to always unlock when I put the key in and/or it may need to just be lubricated. Theoretically if I replace the clips & lube it I will be fine, but I would still be missing a door pin. Currently, I have tape wrapped around it so I can grab it after I lock it, but I sure would like to get the piece replaced. I am afraid to call FORD because I think they will try to charge me for the whole assembly rather than the part that your fingers pull up/push down on.

i actually have a problem with the door of my 1990 Festiva. I use to be able to open it from the outside, but now i can't even do that. any ideas? the key won't do anything either. do i need to replace the whole door assembly? the inner handle, the pin/pull thing, outside lock and outside handle all seem to be totally out of sync.....

So, when you put the key in the lock, does it turn, but nothing happens? Or does it not turn at all? If the key doesn't turn, then the lock is probably seized, if it turns, but still can't open the door, I would take the inside panel off, and make sure everything is still attached correctly. Everything that moves as far as opening the door is concerned connects to a plastic piece that could be damaged.

Cool. If you get anywhere near a j/y, those rods are not that hard to replace.

xlence, did you ever get your knob/pull/rod? Wish I had thought about that, I could have pulled one the other day, and dropped it in with your other stuff.
