  • Puzzling problem with SOHC B6 Swap ...

Ok First off I'm not new at this game, this is my fifth swap, however, it is my first injected swap into a street car instead of a carbed racer.

The recipient car is a 1993 GL and the donor engine from a 1991 323 5 speed.

I did all the harness changes needed as well as the battery re-location and am using the B6 ECU and intake minus most of the airbox, I know its looks a little 'Getto" but it works, and running a 2.5" custom freeflow exhaust.

The problem is that it really smells like it is running rich and when I depress the clutch at a stop light to come to a stop the engine revs slightly and the bottom falls out of the idle and it wants to stall.

On the original setup with the B3 when you put the car in gear the revs would increase slightly.

As for the rich smell I have checked timing, vacuum leaks and the like but to no avail.

It drives fine and goes like a rocket, but the check engine light comes and goes at regular intervals like every 10 mins on the highway ...

    Any takers???

Might want to look at the idle up mechanism on the throttle body?

When the clutch is pressed it activates the idle-up mechanism briefly.

I had a problem with the idle-up solenoid thingy a while back that caused the car to almost stall and die.

OK, ... I solved the idle roll prob with a simple timing check and adjustment, But it still runs really rich ...

Would loss of back pressure effect the air fuel mix?
